This printer is intended to work only with cartridges that have a new or reused HP chip, and it uses dynamic security measures to block cartridges using a non-HP chip. Periodic firmware updates will maintain the effectiveness of these measures and block cartridges that previously worked. A reused HP chip enables the use of reused, remanufactured, and refilled cartridges.¹² Contribute to the circular economy with HP Planet Partners¹³ and our PVC alternative media profile database.¹⁴

Based on HP Large-format supplies Long Term Plan, at least 70% of printers installed, from the previous generation, are still in use in 2024. And on average, printers in use are 6-7 years old, and at least 50% of printers are > 6 years old.
Applicable to HP Latex Inks. Based on sensory evaluations conducted by Odournet, done according to VDI Guideline 3882, where HP 832, HP 872, HP 873, HP 875, HP 882, HP 883, and HP 886 Latex Inks were characterized as "weak" in odor intensity and "neutral" for hedonic tone. There is a broad set of media with very different odor profiles. Some of the media can affect the odor performance of the final print.
HP Latex Inks were tested for Hazardous Air Pollutants, as defined in the Clean Air Act, per U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Method 311 (testing conducted in 2013), and none were detected.
Whitest white based on ISO/DIS 23498 compared to top sellers' competitive alternatives using UV technology between $100,000 and $200,000 USD as of August 2024. Test performed on black opaque self-adhesive vinyl (L*:2.35 – a:2.73 - b:4.26) with 260% Spot print mode using HP 883 3-liter White Latex Ink Cartridge. Visual opacity = 94.7%. White ink available for HP Latex FS50 W and HP Latex FS70 W printers only. When HP 886 White Latex Printheads are placed in the storage cassettes, no white ink is used for servicing when printheads are not in use.
